Help us build an Outdoor Lunchroom/Classroom
Help us with the building of the Benches and cementing them in to create the outdoor lunchroom and classroom:
HERE is the NEW SIGN UP GENIUS for this upcoming Saturday, October 30th - doing a CLEAN UP and finishing the website:

Thank you to all that came out: Saturday, October 23, 2021: www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f4da4ae2ba2fa7-building
How to reach the outdoor lunchroom: Notice you need to drive past the second building - our library and the first entrance on the right side is where you will find the driveway leading down to the greenway where we will be building.

So.... What is the Plan?

Here is what the bench design will look like mostly.
We want to assemble the benches as close as possible to the buildings and in the configured pattern.
Each Bench will be 12 feet long with a 3 foot column between and from the front row to the 10th row = we will have 2 foot spacing.
Students will be able to fit socially distanced 5 to a bench.
The classroom will seat 150 students total!
The painting stage will come a little later, as we purchased greenwood and it needs to dry.
JOBS:
Friday Wood Drop
- Home Depot will be dropping the wood on Friday to the school.
- We hope they have dropped by the specified time, but will need this team to be flexible. The latest drop time is 6 pm, but we anticipate it to be there by 2:30- 4:30 pm. We will be sending a notification to you so you know what time to assist with moving the wood.
- We will need assistance moving the lightweight boxed bench kits from one end of the school to the designated safe area for the night.
Saturday Wood from Safe location to the Greenway:
- We would ask people to assist loading kits, cement, and wood onto pick up trucks on Saturday morning.
- Items needed: pick up trucks
Bench Construction: Each Bench takes a total of 30 minutes to build with 2 people. We would prefer that 1 adult minimum would be assisting each student that helps construct the benches. Students that have their parents present and consent for their children to partake in the work, may help! We currently have 2 or three groups that can assemble the benches. That should take us approximately 5 hours, but the more we have, the quicker we get done. The bench construction crew that is present from 7 am - 12 noon as well as the additional members that are there the entire day, will receive a free lunch.
Materials needed: Cordless Screw Drivers.
Cementing Blocks onto the Benches: Mrs. Johnson has requested that the benches be secured, to keep them from tipping over and to keep them from being removed. Douglas Shamlin, has devised that each set of legs on either end will have a 1 x 3 block of cement placed around the legs to keep them in position. Adding the blocks to the 12 foot benches, should allow for the benches to remain stable and in place. We currently have no volunteers to assist with this.
Cement Mixing: We have all the necessary tools: Wheel barrows, shovels (have 1-2 - could use more), and some hoses (could use more) to create the cement.
What will the final product look like?
Douglas Shamlin, the local business entrepeneur, has provided us with the following sample bench he constructed last week. It is only 8 feet long, but it gives us the idea! This one can be used in the 8th grade legacy garden project:

Picture Album for Saturday, October 23rd, 2021
It takes a village to raise one child. Here we are raising several children with the help of Douglas K Shamlin, a local community business entreuperner who builds homes. He helped me with the planning, purchases (providing some of his discounts), and the Execution. He was an incredible teacher to all on October 23rd, with very precise directions! Thank you Douglas!
Thank you also to everyone who assisted: See the sign up genius for names until I have more time to drop them here! Thanks! Becca Fingerson
