HOW IT ALL BEGAN:
May 20th, Rebecca Fingerson entered the PTSA Closet. She found the room smelled of Sewer. She saw no damage to the room but a missing ceiling tile and a trash can that had a great deal of water in it. She immediately notified last year's board.
Ms. Fingerson, as the Temporary President, met in June with the Advocacy team and formulated a plan.
July 10th, She returned to the PTSA Closet for Spirit Wear. See the pictures on the Main Building Page. See the description of what she found in the July 12th letter. She had done a video walkthrough of the school showing how run down the school is. These videos will not be published in public unless they are necessary.

What has been done?
Continuing to Partner with Principal Johnson in the first week of August 2021
Ms. Johnson showed us everything that was done. She provided us all the information that was needed on what we would be doing next. This is when the PTSA Executive Board learned of the 6 rooms that had mold.

A day of Orientation and A Little Reminder
On August 9th, Rebeca Fingerson headed to the school for a little time to set up the tables for the 6th grade Orientation. She also dropped back the Spirit Wear so it would be ready. She saw humidifiers still running throughout the school where the carpets had been removed. There were still humidifiers in the Auditorium where a puddle had formed on the floor in front of the stage. Based on heresay, the puddle appeared on the floor with no apparent reason, yet also it was said it was on the first night that the dehumidifier was turned on that the garbage can overflowed. So the reason for the puddle has not been confirmed yet. Becky documented it all visually again! On orientation day, she did her presentation and encouraged parents that they were part of the best Middle School in the District! They all clapped and cheered, since we are an incredible school with an incredible prinicipal, staff, academics, and award nationally renowned award winning clubs!
Dr. Thompson had a lot of all day meetings that week, so we sent her another reminder on Monday, August 16th requesting her to please assist us with information. We agreed that if she could get it to us on Wednesday, August 18th, we would be very happy.

What more rooms have mold?
On August 17th, the PTSA Executive Board learned that 5 more additional rooms were discovered within Carnag that had mold on the flooring. There were 5 more rooms discovered on Monday, August 16th. We were told that a fungicide was sprayed on the room's carpets. Humidfiers were brought in to remove the humidity. None of these rooms had been used during summer school.
The Executive Board had held an Emergency meeting about the matter on evening of August 17th. At this point, we felt the issues were to pressing and the Carnage Community should know. We decided to create a petition to get support to rebuild or renovate our school AND to start holding the Legislators accountable for their actions!!!! The petition went out in the wee hours of the morning on August 18th. See What Can We Do?
Additionally the interem President held a Student Executive Board meeting after assisting with the 6th Grade Orientation outdoors selling PTSA memberships, signing people up for the What's App Grade level groups, selling Spirit Wear, and reqesting signatures for the petition.
A Town Hall was scheduled and messages were sent via What's App and presented at the 7th Grade Meet the Teacher outside the building as the PTSA team had a Table again.

Student Executive Board Team did the following:
- Created a draft of the Contents Directions for sending letters to legislators.
- Created sign up geniuses so that we are sure to send to all state legislatures.
- Shivani Halnur created a sample letter that she sent to a legislator. See the Sample Letter.
- Several Website Coordinators stayed on to create the "Building Issues Website."
Questions ANYONE?
Well we were asked by Ms. Thompson to ask any questions. So we did.
Unfortunately there does not appear to be much answers for our funding problem to clean up our school. Dr. Thompson feels the problem is mitigated. Yet Ms. Jayaraman's classroom smelled of mold, so a suggestion was made to address it. Ms. Jayaraman's classroom was temporarily vacated moving all students and Ms. Jayaraman to a different classroom. Then her carpet was torn out during school while students were present as well as teachers beginning sometime on Wednesday, September 22nd. Recently last week though, one student let me know that a teacher requested that if any students see mold in the classroom, that they notify the teacher immediately, so the administration can be notified. The newest concern is: Should a moldy carpet be ripped out while students and staff are currently present within the school? Are the toxic smells and chemicals involved while ripping out a carpet safe for the students and staff to be present around?
